Prek Toal is a bird conservation zone base in Prek Toal Village, Koh Chiveang Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambong Province. Prek Toal is a floating village on Tonle Sab Lake. Along the river to this area, we can see lush trees and plants, floating village, fishing boats, fishing net and other fishing tools and daily life of local people.
There
are more fishing village here and there are more family who live on floating
houses built of bamboos and small wooden boats with roof for some family. Birds
and nature protected zone cover on 21000 Hectars. According to government
contribution, in 1999 ministry of forestry started to protect variety of bird
species and in 2005 one protected center was established. Recently, we found
that the number of birds gain gradually. According to protected worker group
there are 6000 birds with 130 different species including rare birds such as Black-headed Ibis, Painted Stork, Spot-billed Pelican, Milky Stork and the Grey-Headed Fish Eagle. To go to visit those birds, in Battambang we can go on the boat along Sangke River and in Siem Reap we can go on the boat from Chong Khneas through Tonle Sap Lake.
Prek
Toal is a popular tourism site for both local tourists and foreign tourists.
They love visiting here between November and January. So we need to help
protecting birds, flooded forest, fishes and other species for our avid birdwatchers
and boat rowers.
